AL KASR PROJECT DESIGN COMPETITION

AL Kasr project is located in Alsuweidi district developed and managed by Dar Al Arkan. It is described as "one of the most bustling quarters in the southern middle of Riyadh city, it stands as a sophisticated archetype of integrated master-planned projects". Conceived to answer the requirement of a modern city, our team thoroughly considered the latest studies conducted on urbanism, infrastructure and traffic control to decide the placement and the proportions of the different functions. A harmonious cityscape is fundamental therefore the zoning was devised to give the best connection between the different city components and an illusion of history was bestowed on the brand new cityscape by meticulously mixing the classical residential style with the ultramodern of the commercial district.
The residential area noted 5 different building prototypes that gave potential buyers a choice of style and a visual diversity to its landscape. Luxury seekers can select their homes in from the different styles available in the secluded western part of the city. However city-dwellers can choose to live in the residential apartments located on top of the offices in the commercial district.
A successful and prosperous city is characterised by a strong commercial centre that places it as a touristic hub and attracts investments. With these standards in mind, a big ultra-modern shopping mall with its glass fagade that mirrored and modernised its surroundings was conceived on the northern entrance of the city. A small service-based mall was created in the city centre to ensure functionality and L shape commercial district dressed as an Arabian style market framed the residential area.
Education was taken into consideration allowing the residents' children to be schooled near home in 3 different locations without forgetting the prayer places and the administration building that serves the entire city.
